Wood Work Gates – Installation and Repairs

All good gates and fences require constant maintenance costs, unless you get one constructed from the best kind of wood out there. But even in that case, your gate will lose its beauty and elegance if you fail to periodically maintain it. Keep in mind that the gate of your home is the first thing that visitors and passers by look at, and hence you would want it to be eye-catching and attractive.

For all your concerns about wooden gates, Green Gate Construction offers a guideline of tips to maintain your wooden gate. Coupled with this is our list of services that we offer for any wooden gate related issues.

Guidelines for maintenance and repair:

Hire a Professional to Look at the Wooden Gate

Our first advice about any repair work is to hire an experienced professional to look at your gate and handle all the issues arising in its woodwork. We recommend this because any kind of woodwork is always intricately done and very meticulously planned, and hence only an expert will know what to do and what not to do in the best interest of the cleanliness and neatness of the woodwork.

Fix sagging gates

To fix a sagging gate, you should first be aware of the reasons a gate, especially a wooden one, can sag. A sagging gate is most commonly caused by changes in weather and frequent usage, which in turn cause degradation in the bolts, wood, and other parts of the gate. However, worry not, for problems of sagging can be fixed quite easily and conveniently. The things you will require to fix a sagging gate are:

  • Level
  • Tape Measure
  • Power Drill
  • Circular Saw
  • 3-inch deck screws
  • 2 by 4 inch board

All you need to do once you have all the listed items is to ensure a secure and level foundation for the gate and remove rusted or deteriorated parts. For the rest of the process, you essentially need to start hinging the sides of the gate back into their original positions with the help of screws and the power drills. Clean wooden gates

We recommend using a fiber scrub brush along with a mild detergent to get rid of major stains on the wooden finishing. For stains that are harder to remove, using bleach is the most efficient way of removing these stains.

Add one to two cups of bleach in warm water and use it with a scrub.

Make a stronger foundation

To ensure a strong foundation for the gate or fence, make a new footing by pouring pre-mixed concrete into the posthole, and let it dry.
